Okinawa, fooled by history, still is defined by it's geo-specific problems and economical differences to mainland Japan. There is a lot sorted out in the exchange with the inpouring capitalistic mainstream culture and the economical growth. Some of Okinawa's red light districts survived the postwar development and still exist today. It is unsure if they will even survive further growth, but those red light districts evolved from history und are still there.
I walk those red light districts and do portraits. I pay the fixed price for 15 minutes and inside their rooms I borrow the clothes they wear and make them shoot me in their pose.
The time and history of waiting for punters is enrolled in their body, and as such, they exist as a kind of icon. Those pictures show a portrait of me and at the some time, they are a self portrait of those women. Without even knowing their name, me and those women were there, in 2008, for 15 minutes, in this Okinawa.

TANOTAIGA was born in Tokyo and currently lives in Sendai.
People nowadays try to invent a lot of rules and laws to smooth all day's society life. I want to show the backside of this standardised value system and the issues usually not considered by today's society system by enrolling it in sculptures, photography and film to invent solutions.
